Getting Started

Mailman supports mailing lists from a few names up to thousands of names. If you have purchased a mailing list then you will receive an email message giving you the details for accessing the administrative interface for your list:

  • The URL of the list (probably http://mailman.hens-teeth.net/mailman/admin/your_list_name)
  • The administrative password

Note that you are not subscribed to your list just because you are the administrator. If you want to receive messages which are posted to your list, you must subscribe yourself to the list.

If you have a Virtual Private Server (VPS), you can run the Mailman software. This will allow you to host as many mailing lists as you want. Click here for instructions on installing Mailman on an original VPS (VPS A, VPS B, or VPS C).

Tips

Retrieving a list of members of your mailing list.

Send a message to listname-request@hostname. E.g., if your mailing list is named MyList@mailman.hens-teeth.net then you would send the message to MyList-request@mailman.hens-teeth.net. The message should contain one line:

who password

where password is your membership password.

If you get a message back saying that "You are not allowed to retrieve the list membership" then the list administrator has set the list privacy options to prohibit this action.

How do I get my password?
