Getting your web site built is just the first step. Afterward, you will want to keep the site fresh, add more content, revise pages, update text, and publish new information.

Co-Creative Site Maintenance allows you to update your own web site, even if you have no previous experience! If you can run a word processor (e.g., Microsoft® Word) then you have all the skills necessary.

The Details

You download a free trial copy of Macromedia Contribute and try it out. If you like it, buy a copy.

Hen's Teeth Network will construct your web site using Macromedia Dreamweaver templates and CSS style sheets to control the look-and-feel of the site. (We can also apply a similar process to existing web sites.)

We discuss your specific desires and goals for updating your own web site and then Hen's Teeth Network sets the Contribute administrative permissions so that Contribute supports the things that you want to do but protects the portions of the web site that you want HTN to take care of. For instance, if you are comfortable changing the text on existing pages but are worried about accidentally deleting a page, we will configure Contribute to prevent you from deleting pages.

Hen's Teeth Network then sends you a connection key which includes all of the technical details necessary to connect Contribute to your web site. The first time you use Contribute, you need to enter only three things: your name, email address and a password. After that, Contribute "knows" how to manage your web site.

Content Changes

From that point on, Contribute is ready to use. Start it up and use it just like a web browser. Find the page on your web site that you want to modify and click the "Edit Page" button. Or click "New Page" if you want to add a new page to your web site.

Did you already type your text in a Microsoft Word document or Excel spreadsheet? You can publish that on your web site by simply pulling down the "Insert" menu.

Want to add a new picture to your web site? Click the "Image" button. You can select images that are on your own computer or already on your web server. If the picture is on your computer, Contribute even takes care of "uploading" it for you.

When you are done, just press the "Publish" button. Or "Save for Later" if you will be returning later to finish the job. Or "Cancel" if you decide that you don't want to keep the changes that you just made.

Yes, it is really that simple.

Programming Changes

But what if you want to make a "major change" to the appearance of the web site? Say you want to move the navigation menu from the left side to the top, and you want to completely revamp the color scheme and graphics, and you want to change the font?
