Security is Just a Backup Away
Nest Egg Backup for Web Servers

We all know we should backup files on our desktop and laptop machines but how about our servers? Is your web site important enough that you need backups beyond the limits of what is provided with your hosting account? HTN hosting accounts get nightly backups to disk, and weekly backups to tape (one week retained). Some other providers offer different options or even no backup facilities at all.

Consider Nest Egg Backup for Web Servers. For as little as $7.50 per month, you can have full daily backups for 30 days, with individual files available and restorable as they existed on any of those 30 days. So if you accidentally delete a file and don’t discover the problem until later this week or maybe next week, you can still easily restore the missing file.

It’s not quite like storing up treasures in heaven, but it is a virtual storage mechanism that gives you peace of mind in the here and now.

  • Secure storage of 30 Days of Data for a low monthly fee (as low as $7.50/month)
  • Storage from 10 GB to 1,000 GB
  • Easy access to the backup files should you need them
  • A daily accounting of when the backup ran, that it succeeded, and how much was backed up
  • Security knowing that your data is safe even if local hardware or software fail

Order Nest Egg Backup for your web server today.

Upgrade Your Hosting: First 30 Days Free

Supercharge your web site. Sign up for a new Virtual Private Server v3 (VPS) or Managed Private Server v3 (MPS) account by February 29 and receive the first 30 days free. The VPS combines the flexibility of a dedicated machine with the security of a fully managed environment and the economy of shared hosting. The MPS gives you all of the benefits of a VPS on your own, dedicated hardware.

Take advantage of this offer whether you are a new customer or have been with us for years. If you have a Signature or VPS v2 hosting account, this is a great way to step into our newest platform with more features, more performance, and better value.

Which Windows Virus Scanner

Filed under: Desktop Technology — Art Zemon on

We have been using McAfee TOPS as the virus scanning software on our computers. Though the software works well enough, the indirect reseller arrangement we have had with McAfee has been problematic since the beginning. Consequently, we are dropping McAfee TOPS and in search of something better.

I put together a small survey and queried a couple of technology mailing lists, seeking first-hand information on various virus scanners. Since I used a free SurveyMonkey account to run the survey, I was not able to export the results. Instead, I have manually summarized them here.

The questions were very simple:

  1. Which Windoze virus scanning software do you use?
  2. How satisfied are you with your software?
  3. Would you recommend your software?

Welcome

Filed under: This & That — Art Zemon on

Welcome to the new Hen’s Teeth Network blog. I am very proud to be working with a team with diverse enough talents that we can regularly write articles of interest to you, regardless of the way you use your web site. We will be bringing you a couple of articles a week which ought to inform, educate, and, with a little bit o’ luck, amuse. We will touch on topics ranging from e-commerce to new features in your hosting plan to search engine optimization (SEO) to ideas which you can use to make your site a “must visit” place for your prospects and customers. We will also introduce newly launched web sites and updates to your sites. (Done something interesting with your site lately? Let us know. A little write-up and a link might draw some more traffic to you.)

Since all five of us have different backgrounds, you will see postings from several different perspectives. Bert answers most of your support questions so his articles may well solve little annoyances that you did not even know were solvable. Scott’s world consists of the heavy duty programming magic which can make your web site do things which you may have dreamed about but not believed possible; look for him to expand your horizons. Boysen is the artist among us; he will have pictures for you, ideas on color and white space and fonts and balance. Candy expects technology to actually be useful and is not shy with her thoughts on trends and interactions. As for me, I make no promises. With my fingers in every aspect of this business and enough curiosity to kill several cats, I may write about almost anything.

I have wanted Hen’s Teeth Network to publish a good blog for several years. I think we are finally in a position to do so and hope that you enjoy reading this blog as much as we enjoy writing it. Since this is a blog, and not cast in stone, I hope that you will feel free to join the conversation by posting comments.
